WeHero Events:
What: During this virtual event we’ll discuss different social movements and how art can be a powerful force for change. Participants will grab the art supplies available in your home and learn how to create art with a social purpose. After the event, you can keep your completed art and follow the provided instructions to send it to National CARES to support their mission to support the emotional, social, and academic development of Black youth in underserved communities. (nonprofit organization: National CARES)
Recommended Materials: Blank sheet of paper, pencil, eraser, and coloring materials available (colored pencils, oil pastels/crayons, watercolor/paints, markers). It is also possible to complete this project on a tablet or smartphone!

What: In this session, you will learn about the impact of early education in the United States and the importance of reading at an early age. Post-event, participants will choose a book from a pre-approved book list to read aloud, record, and submit to WeHero. WeHero will share the videos with the nonprofit working to help support kids with early age literacy. (nonprofit organization: Early Learning Coalition of Orange County)
Materials Needed: You will need to choose a book from this book list. You can grab the children’s book from home or pick one up from your local library. If you would like to order one for the activity, we recommend First Book.

What: Through Education Access, you will put together kits for youth in underserved communities with necessary school supplies to learn and thrive in the classroom. Add your own touch and message to each kit you create by drawing fun pictures on the bags, and leaving letters of encouragement. Together we can empower the next generation of history makers with equal access to the tools they need to succeed! (nonprofit organization: Kids in Need Foundation)

What: Raise awareness about the importance of taking care of our environment, while actually doing it! One Tree Planted and WeHero are enabling companies to reforest our local communities, one volunteer event at a time. Join us for this virtual event as we germinate giant sequoia seeds together, learn about our local tree canopy and global reforestation efforts while connecting over a fun activity at home. One Tree Planted will plant 8 trees for every employee who participates in the event. Let’s grow some trees! (nonprofit organization: One Tree Planted)
Recommended Planting Instructions: Once your seedling has reached 8 inches in height, it will be ready to plant outside! The best times to plant are when the temperature does not go below 40 degrees (typically between March and May). Here is a list of locations you can contact, to donate/plant your tree once grown to the needed size.

What: Join Ancestry on our sustainability journey by becoming an Ancestry Sustainability Champion! By completing an hour-long virtual Sustainability course and creating a personal sustainability action plan, you will receive the Ancestry Sustainability Champion Badge, recognition on Treehouse and Ancestry will make a donation to plant a tree in their honor through The Nature Conservancy’s “Plant a Billion Trees” campaign. Stay tuned for the training in Bridge!

What: The Ancestry World Archives Project (AWAP) is an established community of volunteers that has spent years preserving historical documents and making them available online for free. It is a key part of Ancestry’s philanthropic initiative to make culturally important records available to everyone, regardless of subscription status. This project has helped save millions of records worldwide. Please watch this video to learn more about how AWAP has impacted individuals like Holocaust survivor, David Bayer.

Ancestry World Archives Project - Intermediate Volunteer Indexing Activity

What: The Ancestry World Archives Project (AWAP) is an established community of volunteers that has spent years preserving historical documents and making them available online for free. It is a key part of Ancestry’s philanthropic initiative to make culturally important records available to everyone, regardless of subscription status. This project has helped save millions of records worldwide.
Ancestry is a long-time partner of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. In 2011 The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and Ancestry worked together to create the World Memory Project using software and processes developed by AWAP to allow anyone, anywhere to help build the largest free online resource for information about victims and survivors of the Holocaust and Nazi persecution during World War II.
Join us in making an impact by preserving records to help families discover what happened to their loved ones and restore the identities of people the Nazis tried to erase from history.

What: For nearly a decade, Ancestry has offered access to historical record collections and content through its no-cost AncestryK12® program for K-12 schools nationwide to help students personally connect to and learn from history. Today, 5 million students have access to Ancestry in their classrooms. To expand the impact of this program, Ancestry recently partnered with Facing History and Ourselves to develop a robust collection of resources for educators. The classroom resources cover topics including: Race, Slavery & Reconstruction, Immigration, World War II & the Holocaust, and The Power of Identity. These materials help educate students on these important topics and learn more about themselves. Join us to learn more about the program and how you can help empower students in your community through access to AncestryK12.
