We're sending a message through art

About the cause:

National CARES is a pioneering community-galvanizing movement dedicated to alleviating intergenerational poverty among African Americans. It offers Black children in low-income families and unstable communities the social, emotional, and academic support they need to unleash their potential and graduate from high school prepared to succeed in college or vocational training programs and 21st-century careers. They employ two primary strategies. The proven-effective, consciousness-shifting model, ideated and built by experts over a decade, unearths hope and resilience in our young living with trauma-causing impacts of poverty—homelessness, hunger, unrelenting violence, gravely under-resourced schools, and overwhelmed parents and teachers. The traumatic stress children in poverty live with fuels mental illness and physical disease, including anxiety, depression, hypertension, substance abuse, obesity, violence, and also the recent spike in suicide.

About the event:

The event will start with a keynote as we seek to garner education around social justice movements and how we can create the greatest impact possible. We will then shift gears, grabbing the art supplies available to us in our homes (paper, pens, colored pencils, etc.) and watch our art instructor as he teaches us how to create art that provides a message and has meaning. During the session, we’ll be discussing recent social movements around Asian Hate, Black Lives Matter, and even Climate Justice and how art can be a powerful conduit. After the event, you can keep your completed art and follow the provided instructions to send it to National CARES to support their mission.

IMPACT

Offsetting your carbon takes less than 2 minutes

CarbonHero was created to make living a net-zero life easy and accessible for all!

Our mission has always been to remove the friction for companies and individuals so they can give back to worthwhile causes without any hassle. We immediately recognized the need for a solution that easily calculated our carbon footprint and allowed us to offset it on an ongoing basis.

OUR PARTNER

IMPACT

Changing the lives of our children

The Mission of the National CARES Mentoring Movement is to secure, heal and transform the lives of impoverished Black children by inspiring, recruiting, and mobilizing masses of caring Black men and women to mentor and nourish them. Our national volunteer affiliate network connects adults to local youth-serving organizations. Our national group-mentoring programs focus on the emotional, social and academic development of our children and the wellness of the adults who parent, mentor, and educate them.

CARE FOR OUR PLANET

Be a Waste Warrior

We build our volunteer events to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Whether it is offsetting the carbon emissions of the shipping process, using recycled cardboard for the boxes, or relying on algae-based dyes, we’ve made conscious steps to ensure we’re doing right for our world.

However, it’s impossible for us to completely eliminate waste products from the experience. To ensure we limit the impact of these materials, we ask that all participants properly recycle and dispose of the materials they receive.

Recycling is hard so we made this resource list to make it easier!
