Why does WeHero operate as a for-profit entity?
WeHero has traditionally operated at the intersection of the for-profit and non-profit world, executing and building social missions for companies while supporting the best non-profits across the globe. “WeHero is the connective tissue between companies and high impact social causes,” says Gia Giambrone, Programs Manager at Linkedin.
The decision to be a for-profit entity was a tough one. A really tough one, but we believe it was the best decision to make the greatest amount of impact. Here are the top reasons:
- We felt WeHero could set an example of transparency that other for-profit entities could adopt. For example, we are transparent with our financials around every individual project for our clients just like a non-profit (sometimes even more so than a non-profit). Want to see an example? Just ask us! We’re not shy.
- We knew we could innovate and build faster as a for-profit entity. A large part of WeHero’s backbone is the investment in a strong technology and data infrastructure that allows us to work with companies to make a greater impact. To attract the right talent and support these kinds of initiatives, a for-profit structure was our greatest opportunity.
- Our non-profit partners were immensely supportive of the for-profit model for WeHero. Our partners receive a significant amount of support from WeHero including awareness, funding, and the coordination of volunteer efforts. Over the past year, companies have operated best with WeHero in our for-profit structure.
- We said it before and we’ll say it again here, impact. The number one reason WeHero went down the for-profit road was so we could make the greatest impact possible.
WeHero continues to grow, learn, and demonstrate the transparency a for-profit entity can have. We’re excited to embrace our model to have the greatest support possible.
