First Response Corporate Volunteer Programs
COVID-19 has affected us all- our families, our friends, our coworkers, and our communities. For the past six months, we have feared the uncertainty and experienced an upheaval in our daily routines. Amongst the chaos, our doctors, nurses, and healthcare employees have put themselves at risk, fighting relentlessly to keep us safe. As the pandemic continues to impact the health and safety of our communities, frontline workers are becoming increasingly exhausted with unprecedented challenges. Working in partnership with Direct Relief, WeHero has created Operation First Response- a corporate volunteer program, perfectly suited for those looking to support workers on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Mission:
Direct Relief has been working in overdrive to get protective gear and critical care medications to as many health workers as possible, as quickly as possible, with emergency deliveries leaving daily for medical facilities across the U.S. Since January, Direct Relief has delivered more than 12 million N95 and surgical masks, more than 4 million gloves, more than 1 million faceshields and tens of thousands of protective suits and other items to help safeguard health workers.
As cases continue to grow, Direct Relief has focused in on four key areas of support:
- Providing personal protective equipment (PPE) to safeguard health workers.
- Deploying medication needed for intensive care units to expand the capacity to care for ICU patients.
- Boosting support to safety-net facilities to address existing chronic gaps that are likely to grow.
- Collaborating with infectious disease epidemiologists, technology companies and public agencies to use aggregated mobility data to support the COVID-19 response.
The Program:
Teaming up with Direct Relief, WeHero’s Operation First Response Corporate Volunteer Program provides employees, teams, and individuals with the opportunity to support frontline workers and healthcare facilities, without breaking social distance protocols. WeHero handles the entire event- from organizing sign-ups, to creating a personalized event page, managing shipping, sourcing materials, and hosting a live virtual volunteer event. Each Direct Relief event features a keynote address, a lesson highlighting the impact of the event, and time to assemble kits for the healthcare workers.
After assembly, these kits are delivered to hospitals throughout the country. The kits provide healthcare workers with essential equipment and personalized messages of gratitude and support.
