About the cause: The digital divide is the gap between parts of the world where access to technology is very different. Especially for kids, not having access to the internet can make a big difference in their education. Reading is a gateway skill that paves the pathway for future success. Without it, kids are simply less likely to graduate high school, find employment, or successfully avoid other hardships like poverty, homelessness, hunger, and injustice.
About the event: We will talk about the impact of the digital divide in the United States and the importance of reading at an early age. Participants will each receive a unique book and a flash drive in the mail. They’ll read their books aloud, record their storytime, upload and submit them for WeHero to complete. WeHero will put the digital submissions on a thumb drive, and send them to the nonprofit. Getting a video on a flash drive ensures that children without access to the internet can still watch these videos and have the same experience as kids with the internet. We will share the videos with our partner nonprofit organization, to help support kids with early age literacy.
Join us for this virtual event as we learn about the digital divide and connect over a fun activity at home. Let’s help some kids!
